How to set up administrator roles and permissions?

Purpose of this article

This article explains how to create a new role and configure the set of different permissions.

Before you start
Make sure you have the permission “administrators” along with any permissions you wish for the new Administrator to have.
Instruction
  • Log in as an administrator with the permission “administrators” (included with the Role “Superuser”).

  • From the Main menu, go to: System > Administrators.

  • Click on the “manage administrator roles” button under the admin role filter.

  • For creating new admin role click on “+ add a new administrator role”.

  • For editing the set of permission in existing admin roles, next to the admin role name click on “wrench” icon.

  • Enter following information:

    • Name – enter admin role name (Ex:Data analyst).

    • Explanation – Add a short discription of the admin role.

    • Security policy (optional):

      • Limited allowed subnets - Add the list of allowed subnets, that members of this role allowed to login from. Administrator’s access from not white listed subnet will be denied.

      • Limited allowed countries - List the countries that member of this role are allowed to log in from.

      • Enforce 2nd factor authentication - Tick the box to enable 2nd factor authentication for all administrators under this role. Administrator’s access without using 2nd factor authentication will be denied. First of all make sure that all administrators under this role use the 2nd factor authentication and only then enable this security policy.

  • Permissions in this role - The most importan part is to tick the relevant permissions for this administrator role. Selected set of permissions will be saved in the system as a new admin role.

  • Save changes.

Expected outcome of the instructions

Recently created administrator role (with an unique set of permissions) will be added as a default role in the list of admin roles and will be selectable from administrator settings, permissions section.
